About CoatSpec

CoatSpec is a field calculator and logbook for protective coating inspection: dew point and the surface-temperature margin before you blast or spray, dry film readings checked against an acceptance band, wet film targets, coverage estimates, and a daily report you can print.

The arithmetic, and where it is from

The calculations are the site's own code, built on named formulas rather than typed-in tables. Dew point uses the Magnus formula with the Alduchov and Eskridge constants (a = 17.625, b = 243.04). Wet film thickness is dry film thickness divided by the volume solids fraction, and theoretical coverage uses 1604 mil square feet per US gallon. DFT acceptance follows the gage reading, spot and area structure of SSPC-PA 2, with its restriction levels 1 to 5.

The coverage table inside a guide is generated by the same functions the planner runs, so the guide and the tool give the same figure.

Who is behind it

One independent developer, working alone, writes and maintains CoatSpec. It is not a standards body or a certification scheme, and it has no affiliation with AMPP, SSPC or NACE. The same developer keeps other single-subject field references, such as GaugePass, ThreadRef, MixRatio and SpanRef.

Its 6 guides and 4 reference pages bear the CoatSpec name and no individual byline; the structured data credits the site's organization as author. No inspector certification is claimed.

What your specification decides

The film thickness your coating needs, which restriction level applies, and which edition of a standard governs are set by the project specification and the product data sheet, not by this site. CoatSpec cannot read either, does not calibrate your gauge, and is no substitute for a qualified inspector's acceptance when a job depends on it.
